Birstall Information
Birstall is a large village located on the northern outskirts
of Leicester, eight miles
south of Loughborough and bisected by the main A6.
On the eastern side is the large Watermead Country Park - an
attractive nature reserve
containing several lagoons and an ideal spot for birdwatching,
walking and angling.
The Great Central Railway runs steam trains from Birstall to
Loughborough and is located on the western boundary of the village.
Bradgate Park, set in Charnwood Forest and the most popular tourist
attraction in the
county, is only a 10 minute drive from Birstall.
Birstalls main shopping street is Sibson Road which offers
a wide variety of shops including quality butchers and greengrocers,
electrical goods, shoes, and jewellers as well as Boots the chemists.
The largest supermarket is Somerfield. There are branches
of Nat West, Barclays, Alliance & Leicester and the Nationwide.
Birstall is twinned with Rixensart, Belgium.
