Scout HQ re-opens

MOUNTSORREL’S SCOUT HQ on the Green has re-opened and a new Beaver and Cubs section has started meeting there on Wednesdays.
The old building has been partly refurbished and further improvements are planned, including new windows and toilets.
The new sections, Beavers and Cubs, cater for boys and girls aged 6-10. A Scout group is planned for the future.
Karl Wilson, Charnwood District Cub Scout Leader said: “Scouting in Charnwood is going from strength to strength. With waiting lists at many of our Beaver colonies and Cub Packs growing, these new sections will allow more children to experience the enjoyment of the activities on offer.”
He added: “In addition to the fun of weekly meetings, all new members will have the opportunity to take part in a wide variety of other activities including District sports, swimming and bowling competitions, camps and outings and the thrill and excitement from the more adventurous activities such as climbing and canoeing.”
Mountsorrel Beavers and Cubs meet on Wednesdays: Beavers between 6.15 and 6.45pm and Cubs 7-8.30pm.
Karl has organised an Opening Party on Friday October 8, 7pm, at the Green HQ, which will be attended by the Mayor Charnwood, Mike Jones. All are welcome to attend, to find out more and look at the refurbished building.
If you would like to find out more about getting involved as a leader or helper with the new sections or if your son or daughter is aged between 5 & 10 years old and you’d like them to join the Beavers or Cubs then please call Carol (District Commissioner) on 01509 880 438.

Ladybird books celebrated

AN EXHIBITION entitled ‘Ladybird Life’, which celebrates 90 years of Ladybird Books will be on at Charnwood Museum in Loughborough until October 31.
The Ladybird Life exhibition celebrates 90 years of Ladybird Books from the very first books printed in the First World War to the modern international best-sellers. Rare early editions are on display together with some of the original artwork used to illustrate them.
The exhibition offers many opportunities for school, nursery and family groups to engage in fun learning activities. There are specially created Ladybird based interactives for the children to enjoy, including one that allows pupils to make their own giant sized Ladybird book. There is also a reading corner with original Ladybird books, old and new, for families or classes to read together.
Literacy and other national curriculum based activities can be organised for school and nursery groups on request. For further details please contact the curator, Susan Cooke, on 01509 233737.
Charnwood Museum is located in Queen’s Park in Loughborough.
Opening Hours: Mon-Sat 10am-4.30pm, Sunday 1-4pm.
